I don't see the problem with this. He might not have been the most talented player of all time but he was a grafter, clearly loves the club and seems pretty grounded. The youth would do well to learn from him.

If our current strikers worked as hard and put themselves about a bit more like CFC then we'd have finished higher up the table.

"seems pretty grounded"

That'll probably be because he spent most of his time falling on his arse.

Re: Academy coach Carlton Cole????
Personally, I think it's a joke that he's been brought in to advise the kids on how not to live like Carlton Cole and spunk all your money up the wall.

They should have gone with someone in who knows what they're doing when it comes to money.

Re: Academy coach Carlton Cole????
I can just imagine the first day at "What to do with your money" class.

Cole: "Alright lads, first thing I'm going to teach you is not to be me, and lose all the millions you could earn."

Pupil: "That's brilliant, so what do we have to do not to be like you?"

Cole: "Fucked if I know, I just know how to lose millions of pounds down the back of the sofa"
*lobs snow*

He'll get the kids ENJOYING football.

He'll be able to show them the value of effort over talent.

I agree, I wouldn't have him down as a financial adviser! One assumes that is not his job.

If he were younger, he'd be in the team before Arnoutovic. Easily.

Apologies if needed, but I think Carlton is a good man to have onboard. Cheers.

have you not heard of football agents? he's not been employed as a financial advisor. considering some of the shit that have robbed millions off the club for years for very little return, and you're worried about cole being given a chance to coach teenagers?

Re: Academy coach Carlton Cole????
He's not coaching them. He's mentoring them.

Sarge 2:44 Fri May 24
Re: Academy coach Carlton Cole????
Put his attitude in to all of our first team strikers and you'd improve each one.

not the best we've had by a long shot - but he knows that - but he contributed all he could when he could.

Plus he's scored at Wembley for us.

He's here as a coach and a mentor.

According to Collison, “It’s not just about being out on the training pitch and doing extra finishing and stuff like that, but a holistic approach which will see Coley work with the lads as a mentor, offering advice and sharing his experience."

Apparently he does individual training with the young forwards. Given that the only brief period he was any good was when Zola was giving him one on one training then no doubt he understands the benefit of it.

A lot on here are spot on. Yeah, he was no Messi but he put in 100% and was rewarded with being picked for his country.

And Trundle, someone who spunked their wealth up the wall and then learned from their mistakes is exactly who you want as a mentor. It's why ex-druggies become counselors to help others. They've been there, done it, survived it.

Maybe you could mentor twats. You seem well qualified judging by your posts.

Re: Academy coach Carlton Cole????
I think its a great idea, not only hopefully advise the boys on the importance of keeping yourself grounded in particular that it is a very short career for some.
Secondly the Academy teams are crying out for a Carlton Cole like player ,as I have said before we are great at creating, not that bad defensively but No end product,No player to hold up and bring the more mobile players into play.
Maybe Browne or Silva could play that role and maybe that could evolve into a plan B for the senior squad.
